Sismo de 7,1 sacude la Isla Norte de Nueva Zelandia
(CNN Español) -- Un sismo de 7,1 sacudió las costas de la Isla Norte de Nueva Zelandia este jueves según informó el Servicio Geológico de los Estados Unidos (USGS, por sus siglas en inglés).

Según USGS, el sismo se presentó a una profundidad de 30,7 kilómetros.
Aunque el Centro de Alerta de Tsunamis del Pacífico dijo que no se espera alerta de tsunami tras el terremoto cuyo epicentro fue a 167 kilómetros al noroeste de Gisborne, se observaron pequeñas olas de 21 centímetros.
El Departamento de Defensa Civil de Nueva Zelandia emitió una alerta de tsunami que según afirman durará varias horas. Además, instó a la gente a mantenerse alejada de las playas:
MCDEM have issued a tsunami warning for East Coast of North Island (incl Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty) and Upper South Island. #EQNZ
